Books About Art: A Legacy Of Delivering Rare Art And Design Publications
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Books About Art, November 16, 2023 — Books About Art formerly known as Pennies From Heaven, has a rich history that dates back to the late 1980s. Originally established as an Art and Design bookseller in Bath, the company quickly gained recognition for its offering of difficult-to-find publications and catalogues. Over the years, this humble beginning transformed into a dynamic enterprise with a remarkable journey. In the late 1990s, Books About Art expanded its services, transitioning into a mobile operation catering to educational institutions. It was during this period that the company’s distinctive approach to delivering knowledge and inspiration through printed materials began to flourish.
By the late 90s, Books About Art had grown to operate seven book vans. These mobile units traversed the United Kingdom and Ireland, supplying schools, colleges, and universities with a curated selection of art and design literature. Additionally, Books About Art reached out directly to students by setting up pop-up sales in the foyers and cafes of art schools. This unique approach ensured that knowledge and inspiration found their way into the hands of aspiring artists and scholars.
In 2016, a new chapter in the company’s history began when Guy Bigland took over and renamed the business “Books About Art.” Under his leadership, the business continued its commitment to providing a wide range of art and design publications while evolving to meet the changing needs of the art community.
Guy Bigland managed the business with a single book van for four years, traveling from the company’s base in Bath to visit customers across the country. This hands-on approach allowed him to maintain the company’s focus on delivering quality publications and maintaining personal connections with educational institutions and students.
As Books About Art looks to the future, it remains dedicated to its core mission of providing rare and essential publications in the field of art and design. With its rich history and commitment to the arts, Books About Art continues to be a vital resource for those seeking knowledge, inspiration, and a deeper understanding of the world of art and design.
